Apis mellifera veya bal arısı, Apis cinsine bağlı bir arı türüdür. Dünya çapında 7-12 bal arısı türü arasında en yaygın olanıdır. Apis cins adı Latince "arı" anlamına gelir ve mellifera Latince "bal taşıyan" anlamına gelir ve türün bal üretimine atıfta bulunur.
